SAMSA at a Glance

The South African Medical Students Association (SAMSA) is a student body association consisting of medical students from medical schools across the country. SAMSA members exhibit a passion for both medicine and making a positive impact in both South African and global communities. The association aims to create a network of medical students that support and encourage each other to carry out tasks that extend beyond the scope of their respective universities. In addition, SAMSA aims to create opportunities for professional development and acts as a representative voice for all medical students.  In essence, SAMSA is an organisation run by medical students to offer assistance to other medical students and the community at large.

At the UKZN Chapter of SAMSA, we endeavour to identify needs in the KwaZulu-Natal community specifically and work together as a team to organize, plan and execute projects that we believe will benefit the community. We encourage our students to get involved in SAMSA projects and campaigns that are carried out in-person and on social media.

We function at a national and local level to orchestrate projects that encompass the 4 portfolios of SAMSA:

  1. Student Representation
  2. Outreach
  3. Collaboration
  4. Professional Development
